UAE National Day and DSF marketing plan 2026
UAE National Day marketing in 2026 centres on 2 December, the 55th Eid Al Etihad, followed two days later by the Dubai Shopping Festival, which runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027. That gives UAE brands one six week window with two very different moods: national pride first, then a citywide sale. This guide shows how we plan both, with dates, rules, an AED budget example and the free <a href="/tools/gcc-marketing-calendar-2027/">GCC marketing calendar 2027</a> for what comes next.

When are UAE National Day and the Dubai Shopping Festival in 2026?
UAE National Day, officially called Eid Al Etihad (عيد الاتحاد), falls on Wednesday 2 December 2026, and the official holiday calendar sets 2 and 3 December as paid days off for the public and private sectors. The Cabinet can move non religious holidays to create a long weekend, as it did in 2025 when the break was observed on 1 and 2 December, and that decision usually comes in mid November. Plan for 2 and 3 December, and keep a second version of your schedule ready in case the dates shift.
The 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF), organised by Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, opens on Friday 4 December 2026 and closes on 17 January 2027, 45 days in total and longer than last season's 38 day edition. It brings raffles, mall promotions, concerts and events across the city, and it overlaps with Christmas, New Year and the winter tourist peak.
| Date (2026 to 2027) | Moment | What it means for ads |
|---|---|---|
| 27 to 30 November | Black Friday weekend and Cyber Monday | Highest competition of the year; National Day creative should be ready but not live yet |
| Around 28 November to 3 December | National Day build up and holiday | Patriotic, respectful creative; long weekend travel and dining offers |
| 4 December | DSF opening day | Switch to sale and gifting creative; raise budgets for the opening weekend |
| 24 December to 1 January | Christmas and New Year | Gifting, dining and events; tourists at their peak |
| 2 to 17 January | Final DSF weeks | Last chance messaging, clearance offers, winter tourism |
UAE National Day and DSF marketing in plain words
In plain words, you are running two short campaigns back to back. The first celebrates the country and builds goodwill. The second sells. They need different pictures, different words and often different offers, but they reach the same people within a few days, so planning them together saves money and avoids a gap where your ads go quiet.
Here is a simple example. A Dubai perfume shop has AED 10,000 to spend on ads. It spends AED 3,000 from 28 November to 3 December on a National Day gift set with a heritage themed box, then AED 7,000 across DSF on a 20% offer and a gift with purchase. A budget is the total you agree to spend. Creative means the images, videos and text of the ad. Retargeting means showing ads again to people who already visited your website or engaged with your page. If the shop takes AED 30,000 in sales from AED 10,000 of ads, its ROAS (return on ad spend) is 3, meaning AED 3 back for every AED 1 spent.
National Day creative: what can you use and what should you avoid?
The safest National Day creative celebrates the UAE without putting the national flag into a sales message. The UAE flag protocol published by the government says the flag should not be used for commercial purposes, as a trademark or for advertising purposes without prior permission from the relevant authorities. The official Eid Al Etihad identity also comes with published brand guidelines that forbid stretching, recolouring or redrawing the logo, so use it only as the guidelines allow, or not at all.
| Usually fine | Avoid or get approval first |
|---|---|
| The colours red, green, white and black used as a design theme | The UAE flag on products, packaging, price tags or sale banners |
| Heritage themes: Al Sadu patterns, dhow boats, falcons, coffee and dates | Altering, recolouring or translating the official Eid Al Etihad logo |
| Thank you messages to the community and the country | Discount headlines that make the national occasion feel like a price promotion |
| Limited edition products that honour the 55th anniversary | Images of national leaders or official emblems without permission |
| Native Arabic copy written for Emirati audiences | Machine translated Arabic or slang that does not suit the occasion |
Tone matters more than the offer. Many Emirati and Arabic speaking customers respond better to pride, gratitude and family than to hard selling on this day, while expatriate audiences in English are often happy with a long weekend deal. We usually brief separate Arabic and English concepts rather than translating one ad.
How should you advertise during the Dubai Shopping Festival?
Treat DSF as four short phases rather than one 45 day campaign, because demand, competition and the audience change week by week. The opening weekend and the last ten days usually bring the strongest intent, while the middle weeks mix residents, Christmas gifting and tourists.
- Opening (4 to 10 December): launch the main offer, push retargeting to everyone who engaged during National Day and Black Friday, and announce raffles or in store events.
- Gifting (11 to 24 December): bundles, gift sets and delivery promises; this is where Google Shopping and Performance Max often work hardest.
- Holiday peak (25 December to 1 January): dining, events, experiences and tourists; widen location targeting to people visiting Dubai.
- Final weeks (2 to 17 January): last chance messaging, clearance of slower stock and a clear end date in every ad.
If you run a discount, sale or raffle in Dubai, check the promotion permits with the Department of Economy and Tourism before the ads go live, and show the real original price next to the sale price. Businesses licensed in another emirate or a free zone should confirm what applies with their own licensing authority.
A worked budget example in AED
A clear phase plan stops the National Day budget from being eaten by Black Friday and keeps money back for the end of DSF. Below is how we might split AED 24,500 for a Dubai online fashion store across the whole window.
| Phase | Dates | Daily budget | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| National Day | 28 November to 3 December | AED 1,000 | AED 6,000 |
| DSF opening | 4 to 10 December | AED 715 | AED 5,000 |
| Gifting and holidays | 11 to 31 December | AED 400 | AED 8,400 |
| Final DSF weeks | 1 to 17 January | AED 300 | AED 5,100 |
| Total | 51 days | AED 24,500 |
Before you set targets, work out your break-even ROAS at the sale price. If a dress costs AED 100 to make and deliver and normally sells for AED 200, a 20% DSF discount brings the price to AED 160 and the margin to AED 60. Break-even ROAS is then 160 divided by 60, about 2.7, so any campaign below 2.7 loses money on each sale. Our free ROAS calculator for break-even targets does this sum for every product, and the calculator below turns a budget into expected clicks and leads.
For specialists: Google Ads, Meta and tracking settings for the season
For specialists, the gains come from scheduling, bidding controls and clean data rather than from extra budget. This is the list we work through with clients.
- Seasonality adjustments in Google Ads. Google describes seasonality adjustments as ideal for events of 1 to 7 days and less reliable beyond 14 days. Use one for the National Day long weekend or the DSF opening weekend if you expect a clear jump in conversion rate, not for the whole festival. You find them under Bid strategies, in Advanced controls.
- Sale prices in Merchant Center. Add the sale_price and sale_price_effective_date attributes so Shopping and Performance Max ads change price automatically on 4 December and switch back on 18 January.
- Scheduled ad copy. Prepare responsive search ads for each phase in English and Arabic and use start and end dates, so National Day copy never runs during DSF. A countdown customiser in the headline works well in the last week.
- Location settings. For tourist audiences, add source markets such as Saudi Arabia, Oman and Kuwait with Presence or interest targeting in Google Ads, and include people travelling in the area in Meta where that option is available.
- Meta structure. Keep one sales campaign per phase, with Advantage+ placements and at least three creative concepts per language. Fresh creative every 7 to 10 days limits fatigue in a crowded auction.
- Tracking first. Check that purchases fire in GA4, Google Ads and the Meta pixel and Conversions API before 28 November. Tag every WhatsApp, email and influencer link with UTM parameters, so DSF sales are not reported as direct traffic.
Common mistakes we see: running one evergreen campaign through both moments, raising budgets without lowering ROAS targets to match the discounted margin, and forgetting that Friday 4 December may still be a working day. Our Google Ads agency team in Dubai and Meta ads specialists build this season plan as one connected account setup.
How do national days differ across the GCC?
Each GCC country has its own national day, so a regional brand needs a separate creative and schedule for each market rather than one Gulf wide campaign.
| Country | National day | Planning note |
|---|---|---|
| Oman | 20 November | Overlaps with White Friday; keep national creative separate from sale ads |
| UAE | 2 December | Followed by DSF from 4 December in Dubai |
| Bahrain | 16 and 17 December | Falls in the middle of DSF gifting; run local Bahrain creative |
| Qatar | 18 December | Strong patriotic moment; avoid copying UAE creative |
| Kuwait | 25 and 26 February | Part of the Hala February season |
| Saudi Arabia | 23 September (Founding Day 22 February) | Two moments a year, both major sale periods |
All of these dates, with recommended start dates, are in our free GCC marketing calendar 2027. You can filter by country, choose religious, national or retail dates, press Add to Google Calendar on any event, or use Download all dates (.ics) to import the full year.

A four week checklist starting now
- This week: confirm National Day and DSF offers, margins and stock, check permits, and calculate break-even ROAS for each product line.
- Week two: brief and produce National Day creative in Arabic and English, separate from DSF creative, and check every visual against the flag and logo rules.
- Week three: schedule ads and emails for each phase, upload sale prices to Merchant Center and test tracking, WhatsApp links and checkout on mobile.
- Week four: watch for the official holiday announcement, adjust schedules if the dates move, then go live with National Day ads around 28 November.

Frequently asked questions
When is UAE National Day 2026 and is it a holiday?
UAE National Day, or Eid Al Etihad, is on Wednesday 2 December 2026, the 55th anniversary of the union. The official holiday calendar gives 2 and 3 December as paid holidays for the public and private sectors, but the Cabinet can move them to create a long weekend, usually announcing this in mid November.
What are the Dubai Shopping Festival 2026 dates?
The 32nd Dubai Shopping Festival runs from 4 December 2026 to 17 January 2027, 45 days in total. It includes retail promotions, raffles, concerts and events across Dubai, and it overlaps with Christmas, New Year and the winter tourist season.
Can I use the UAE flag in my National Day ads?
The UAE flag protocol says the flag should not be used for commercial purposes, as a trademark or in advertising without prior permission from the relevant authorities. Most brands use the national colours and heritage themes instead, and follow the official Eid Al Etihad brand guidelines if they use the logo.
How much should I spend on ads during DSF?
There is no fixed amount. Start from your margin during the sale, work out break-even ROAS, then split the budget into phases: National Day, DSF opening, gifting and holidays, and the final weeks. A free ROAS calculator and Google Ads budget calculator help you test different budgets before you commit.
Do I need a permit for a DSF sale or discount in Dubai?
Sales, discounts and promotions in Dubai are covered by permits from the Department of Economy and Tourism, and the original price must be real. Businesses licensed in other emirates or free zones should check with their licensing authority before advertising a discount.
